Frequently Asked Questions

What is the fastest sampling interval allowed?
The fastest sampling rate for Hydraclam is every two minutes.

What format is the downloaded data in?
The data is transferred to the PC in a *.csv (comma separated values) format. This is easily portable into spreadsheet packages including Excel.

How long should the battery last?
The Hydraclam system is designed for a field deployment of one year based on hourly sampling. For faster or intermittent sampling, battery life is dependent on usage, deployment period and frequency of sampling and should be changed as part of routine maintenance after 8760 samples (full memory filled) have been taken.

During “Purging“ water is removed from the Hydrant, where does it go?
As a part of the sampling regime water is removed from the Hydrant and raiser pipe to ensure that a Fresh sample of water is analysis. This water is purged into the hydrant chamber and allowed to drain away. The sampling frequency can be modified to allow more time for water to drain away if required.

What does “packet - Timeout Error” mean?
This occurs when the Palm PDA tries to connect to the Hydraclam and does not receive a response.

Check the following:

  • That the cable is connected to the PDA and Hydraclam
  • If you have a cable with a junction use the Power Out software to turn on the communications port and open communications (press both buttons).
